Q: Can I use the AutoDustBoot for surfacing the full build area of the AltMill 4x4?
When surfacing the baseboard using the machine's full X travel (48 inches), the AutoDustBoot may hit the Y-rails. This isn’t an issue if you have a wasteboard on top of the baseboard, as the added 3/4" height provides enough clearance. If you must surface the baseboard directly (without a wasteboard), it's recommended to leave a 2" margin on each side and surface that area with the dust show attached AutoDustBoot. You can then surface the remaining area with the lower dust shoe removed or increase the height of the AutoDustBoot around 3/4 in so it can still capture airborn MDF particles.

What an improvement
This has greatly increased the dust collection efficacy on my AltMill. I can attest that my workspace is much cleaner since having the Auto Dust Boot.
I love that moves independent of the spindle, making the brushes stay at the same level throughout the cut. No more space above, or smashing into the zero plane as a fixed solution would be without adjustment between different length bit changes!! Change the bit and no adjustment is needed, it returns to the set position and drive on.
If you are teetering, take the plunge and you will not regret it.
